It recognizes video DVDs and launches the media player, but it will
not play. None of the major free Linux distributions include the ability
to play DVDs because it is not possible to create a free open source decoder
that does not potentially violate the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
The usual array of internet applications, including Firefox, and a
bittorrent client for all those movies the MPAA so kindly won't let you
view from DVD. It also now includes a Twitter client.
OpenOffice is not included by default. The only included office applications
are "Planner", a project management program, and the Evolution e-mail program.
Like Ubuntu, Fedora has its own easy to use software repository with
many free programs built specifically for Fedora 13.
The software update utility included with Fedora appears to be capable
of grouping related updates, although that feature does not appear to be
used extensively. It also tries to visually indicate the general nature
of the update.
Shutting down Fedora 13. In Fedora the shutdown menu item is located
under the system menu. Logout menu items exist under both the system menu
and the user switch applet.
